Hearing Device Assessments
If an audiologist recommends a hearing aid fitting, there are a series of appointments we offer to ensure patients are given a full choice of hearing technology and a comprehensive, rehabilitation service.
Hearing Device Discussion
The first appointment following a hearing test will be the Hearing Device Discussion appointment. This is a cost and obligation free appointment, where you and your audiologist will discussyour lifestyle, hearing and communication needs. Your audiologist will then offer you a variety of solutions. This may include communication strategies, listening devices or hearing aids. You will be given a full choice of solutions and their relative benefits and technologies will be explained. You should then feel able to choose the option that best suits you.
It is a good idea to bring a family member or trusted friend along to your Hearing Device Discussion appointment. This will help you reflect on your lifestyle and communication needs, and it can be nice to have someone help you decide on the solution that is best for you.
Hearing Device Fitting
Once you have chosen a hearing solution, there will be a Hearing Device Fitting appointment to program your device to your individual prescription and set the device to your preferences. Your audiologist will spend time explaining how your device works, how to look after it and how to get the best out of it.
Hearing Device Review
After you’ve had a couple of weeks to use your hearing device, you will be asked to come back for a Hearing Device Review appointment. In this appointment, we ask how you have been going and adjust your hearing device as needed. The human auditory system will adapt to sound over time, so we expect you to come back and ask for adjustments as you use your device more often. We will also do a number of tests to scientifically assess your hearing device and verify its benefit and efficacy.
We like to see our patients regularly and offer a premium service to hearing device users. We encourage you to come back for Hearing Device Review appointments regularly so we can make sure your hearing needs are always being met.
