Every year, about 665,000 babies around the world are born with significant hearing loss.  As one focus of the foundation’s work is prevention and education on hearing loss, the Hear the World Foundation has launched an information and prevention campaign about hearing loss in babies and children.

A child’s development and quality of life depend fundamentally on his ability to hear. Children learn how to speak by listening to others and themselves communicate. Hearing helps your child learn to read, appreciate music and pick up warnings about dangerous situations. Without a good sense of hearing, your child will have difficulty tackling life’s challenges and opportunities – whether at home or at school. Discovering a hearing loss and fitting a child early with hearing aids is thus of utmost importance to allow the affected an age-appropriate development.

Against this background the Hear the World Foundation has launched an information and prevention campaign which over the next weeks and months will show measures for early detection and treatment options for babies and children with hearing loss in the three different development stages of a child.

The first phase of this information campaign is directed at the general public, especially parents, but is also interesting for experts and opinion leaders in the healthcare sector.

The aim is to emphasize the need for early detection of hearing loss in babies, followed by appropriate intervention allowing age-appropriate development.  By utilising both print and digital media we aim to spread the word about this important topic to as wide an audience as possible.

To support our communication strategy we have also created a special microsite on the Hear the World website and are promoting question sessions with experts on our Facebook page.  Click here to access the microsite www.hear-the-world.com/children.  If you would like to stay informed about the campaign and help us spread the word you can “like” us on Facebook www.facebook.com/CanYouHearTheWorld.
